I will start with the first and most important one....

If you are newly dx'd, take things one moment at a time... do not project into the future... just deal with what you have to deal with right now. If you think ahead too far you will drive yourself crazy!

And before you take the first step...take a deep breath...

Designate a team captain. Someone who can help organize your life and your families life while you are going through this. Especially in the beginning.

No matter how bad you feel now, you WILL get through it and be on the other side of this, stronger than you ever imagined possible!

If someone ask "is there anything I can do to help"... Tell them. Often times family and friends are feeling pretty useless about now and really want to do something to help.  Drive you to an appointment  walk the dog, go to the store, make a meal, run errands, take the kids for a couple of hours...

Find a buddy who understands what you're going through ... come to NoSurrender OFTEN ... ask any questions that are on your mind ...  get information and support from others who've been in your shoes.

Tell your onc or chemo nurse if you experience nausea. They have other medications you can try until you find one that works! Tell them about any other side effects as well. Some SEs are unavoidable, but the chemo nurses usually have really good advice for dealing with them.

You don't have to understand it all from the get-go...give yourself time for the dust to settle. Don't even google your questions right away and if you can't resist, don't believe everything you read! Visit here often and ask questions--nothing is too silly or minor--and you will find that you will get a balanced response delivered in a friendly environment. After a while, you will begin to feel like you're ready to know the next step...everyone's different and only you can decide when you're ready to find out more.

Spend some time outside - walking, taking in the season, breathing, etc. - everyday even if you don't feel like it.  If you just don't feel up to it, recruit a friend to come over and tie your shoes, through your coat on and go with ya!

Keep a note pad available.  Record questions you want to ask your Oncologist.
